 Beaver Creek Summer Media Guide

Just For Kidsrafing kids 2008

Please also visit the Outdoor Activities section of this guide!

At Beaver Creek, families come first. A year-round outdoor ice rink centered in a European-style pedestrian village lends a cozy, friendly atmosphere to the resort and creates a magical mountain playground for kids (and adults) of all ages.

Hike-ology
Beaver Creek Hiking Center's Hike-ology program invites kids to play at the Big Dig, an archaelogical dig site complete with artifacts on the mountain. On the Discovery Loop, little ones can learn about the area¡¦s history and wildlife while keeping on the lookout for marmots, fox, hawks, elk and more.

Free Daily Family Nature Walks

Free one-hour nature hikes for families depart daily at 11 a.m. from the top of the Centennial chairlift and are led by experienced guides from Beaver Creek Hiking Center.  This a fantastic way for kids, parents and individuals to learn about the area.  Watch for wildlife and wildflowers.  No registration necessary.  Participants must buy a lift ticket.  Kids under 12 ride the lift for free when accompanied by an adult. Up to 3 kids can ride per paying adult.

Bungee Trampoline, Miniature Golf and Climbing Wall
Smiles abound at the base of the mountain where kids can bounce and flip to their heart¡¦s content on a four-person bungee trampoline, practice their putting on an 18-hole mini golf course, and reach for the sky on the resort's impressive outdoor climbing wall. Pricing per person: Bungee Trampoline, $10 (all ages, 30-180 lbs.); Climbing Wall, $10 for 3 climbs or $15 for 30 minutes; Mini Golf, $8 for adults, kids and seniors (consecutive games, $4)

FREE Children's Museum
Another popular spot to spend time is the Children's Museum at Beaver Creek. The museum, located at the top of the first escalator, will open its doors for the summer at the end of June. From Legos to Tinker Toys, puppets to books, computer games to rain forest adventures, this free, fun and educational museum promises to delight - and enlighten - the entire family. Some of the featured exhibits are Professor Quackenbush's Workshop, filled with building- and construction-themed activities; The Computer Zone, Banana Jones' Jungle Science Lab, filled with biological and scientific gadgets; and the J.B. Tucker Showman's Theatre, a working theatrical stage filled with costumes and props for the kids. In addition, there are regularly scheduled special presentations, including natural science days presented by the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Admission is free.

Game Garage

Children's Performances on the Plaza
Always sure to gather a crowd is the Beaver Creek Children's Theatre Company. In its 18th year, the strong crew of performers pops up in various spots throughout the Beaver Creek Plaza on Tuesdays through Saturdays. Families sit and enjoy animated children's poetry, fractured fairytales and far-out folktales from around the world. Brian Hall of Blue Creek Productions especially delights in performing in front of families who return to Beaver Creek year after year, giving him the chance to watch the children grow up.

Children's Theatre Workshops
